Job Overview:
The Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery to assist in the excavation, installation, and maintenance of underground utility infrastructure. This role requires attention to detail, commitment to safety, and teamwork.
Responsibilities:
As the Operator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of our projects. Your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Safely operate various heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, loaders, trench compactors, and more to support trench excavation and utility installations.
• Prepare job sites for excavation and assist with loading/unloading equipment.
• Operate machinery to dig trenches, install duct banks and manholes, and complete other excavation tasks as directed.
• Conduct daily inspections and basic maintenance on equipment, ensuring proper fluid levels, lubrication, and cleanliness. Report any malfunctions or breakdowns immediately.
• Assist the crew with on-site tasks when not operating equipment.
• Follow instructions from the Foreman or Superintendent and maintain communication throughout the workday.
• Attend and actively participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and adhere to all safety protocols.
• Perform minor equipment repairs and preventative maintenance, such as refueling, lubricating, and replacing fluids.
• Ensure job site cleanliness and organization, maintaining secure and efficient workspaces.
• Operate equipment with precision, whether manually or using GPS and technical software as required.
• Support the team in maintaining safe and efficient workflows, complying with all OSHA and company safety policies.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment, with specific expertise in backhoes and excavators. (Dry utility project experience preferred.)
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Strong physical ability to safely operate heavy machinery and assist labor or pipe crews, including climbing on and off equipment as needed.
• Solid communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively in teams and resolve basic conflicts independently or with management support.
• Capable of working under pressure, meeting deadlines, and making decisions to ensure production, quality, and safety are maintained.
• Problem-solving skills with the ability to handle emergencies, stress, and complex tasks on the job site.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and flexibility to accommodate overtime, night shifts, and weekend work when required.
• Active driver’s license with a clean driving record. (A DOT medical card or CDL may be required for certain equipment.)
• Competency in reading and interpreting construction plans, with a general understanding of construction processes and safety standards.

• Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds
