Job Overview:
The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing financial aspects of assigned projects, ensuring accurate tracking of costs, revenues, budgets, and forecasts. This role will partner closely with project managers and operations teams to provide timely and accurate financial reporting, monitor project performance, and support decision-making. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and able to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
- Track project-related expenses, revenues, and margins; ensure proper coding and allocation.
- Work with project managers to monitor progress, analyze variances, and identify risks/opportunities.
- Manage billing processes, including progress billings, milestone invoicing, and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards (GAAP), and contractual requirements.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and project reconciliations.
- Assist with preparation of WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules and financial reports for leadership.
- Collaborate with operations and procurement teams on purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders.
- Participate in audits/reviews, providing project-level documentation as required.
- Continuously improve project accounting processes, controls, and reporting tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably in construction or engineering.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and project-based financial reporting.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, or similar).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; ability to analyze and interpret complex data.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to partner across functions.
